On the last day of the conference, the three of us were able to present information on drug treatment court, Hope House and the Duluth curriculum (BEP).
A brief comparison was made between the Duluth curriculum in Poland and in the State of Iowa. The Polish program has been operating since 2002 in the prison systems and in the community. When a client is sentenced they are either placed on probation or they are immediately sent to prison. The jail system is not used as a senencing tool or for contempt action. The Poles operate a 24-week program, where we currently use a 16-week format. More to come, as we meet with Martin, the coordinator of the program and Deputy Probation Officer, Agnieszka Rusinska.
There are no comparable programs in Poland to the drug treatment court or Hope House, our residential facility.
We were well received at the conference and fielded questions at the end of our presentations.
