Top 5 intersting facts about Polish corrections, thus far...

1. It is illegal to operate a motor vehicle after consuming ANY alcohol in Poland. At Polish corrections afterfunctions, if a probation officer has had a few drinks prior to leaving the conference, he/she can walk to the local police station to receive a B.A test. If positive, the probation officer is not charged, just must wait to drive. What if America became this serious about addressing drunk driving?

2. If an offender is Court ordered to do community service work, the Judge orders the offenders to do the work at a local factory. The probation officer deosn't monitor this requiremnt. Community service work is ordered as a sanction or to pay on Court fines, as in our system.

3. If a female probation officer becomes pregnant, she can immediately take maternity leave for up to one year. She is fully paid with all benefits.

4. Volunteers are used in the Polish corrections field. They serve for two years, as a volunteer, then apply for an apprenticeship. The apprentice must pass an exam prior to applying for a probation officer position. A clean criminal history must exist in order to become a probation officer.

5. Requirements for a probation officer are: 24 years of age, present paper application of a clean criminal history, Master's degree in one of 4 studies, police must visit the home and their approval, present resume' (C.V.).
